A weekend recap... Thankful.. and thrifty finds

We got to to go on a quick trip to visit our son over the weekend..
and I am so Thankful.

Any amount of time that we get to spend with our kids is a true gift in my opinion.
Children grow up so fast... it is soooo true!

When our son moved out to go to college over the summer... suddenly I was forced with
having to get use to seeing him occasionally, instead of daily..  no it has not been easy.  :0)
And our daughter is in high school now, so of course there are ball games and activities..
Life can certainly get busy.. oh yes it can. :o)

So needless to say, I have become very aware of how fast they grow up.
I have learned to treasure the moments that I do get to spend with my kids.
They are a gift, and I am so thankful for them and all the time we get to share
together.

While we were on our trip to see him, we took a little time and did some shopping.
Our daughter needed to find a new dress for a winter formal that is coming up.. and
after a few stores, we found "the dress" :0)  Yay..
We also went to a couple antique shops/goodwill stores while we were out and
about.
I enjoy looking at all the antiques, and seeing what kind of items are up for grabs at the
thrift stores.. however, I have became rather particular about what I will actually bring home.
I am not sure why exactly..  just happened.
There are a lot of things I like.. look at.. and may even pick them up.. but ultimately put
 them down.
I have to either really like it, or know we will use it/need it or so on..
So here are the 2 items that made the cut..

Seriously.. how cute is that snowman?  So stinking cute!
Then at another goodwill.. a chair.
Solid wood.  Rolls.  Swivels. Can adjust the height up or down however you like.
It was priced at 9.99 but even better than that it was 50% off.    Yep, less than 5 bucks!
I know it looks a little rough.. but for a DIY'er - no problem!

I sprayed it with my household cleaner (vinegar/water), and wiped it all down.
Then I got a sos pad and went to work,  basically I just wanted to it to see if I
could get the white paint off.. and I knew I planned to refinish it anyway, so if it
scratched it wasn't a big deal to me.
after a few seconds of scrubbing:

then after a few minutes:

Yep.. it worked!
It looks so much better!!!   Now I have to decide how I want to refinish it and
wait for a nice warm day.
Hmm.. Stain or Paint? I have went back and forth on it, but I am kind of leaning towards
stain on this piece..
What do you think?

  1. So true Tina....any time with our children is a gift! I have to say I am loving both of your Goodwill finds! That snowman is adorable and what a steal on that chair. I can't wait to see what you do with it!
