Friday Favorites... (5/30/14)

Is it just me or did the month of May just fly by...???
Like a jet plane! :0)

Well, since this month is drawing to a close,  I decided today's Friday Fave's list
is getting a little change up... and is going to be more of a hodge podge of
a few "month of May" favorites instead. :0)

~ One of the love's of my life, our son's birthday was during the month of May.
Seriously, I about have to pinch myself... He is 19! ???  They grow up so fast...
You have probably heard that said a thousand times,  but it is soooo true!

~ Our garden is officially planted and growing strong... I even caught a tomato already
growing last night.  Woohoo for home grown tomato's!

~  The Mr. helped me with this landscape decor idea that I had, and we created a
neat place for our old water pump to proudly be displayed.

~ Summer break has officially began around here... Yay!

~ I have been reading "Believing God" by Beth Moore.  I am not really what I would
call a big reader... so if I am not real interested in a book within a couple chapters,
I don't usually finish it...  but so far all of her books that I have read, I have
   really enjoyed.
Our daughter however, loves to read... she can download a book on the kindle
that has several hundred pages and read it like it's nothing.  Not this gal...  I like to read
a couple chapters in the evening for the most part.. depending on what is going on around
the house and how tired I am.  Ha.. :0)

Hope you have a great weekend!

What's in the garden?

Our garden is finally planted...
Ya know, unless I decide to add to it again by some chance. :0)

As of now...
we have several Tomato plants (16), Squash, Jalapeno Peppers, Cilantro, and Parsley...

Homemade salsa sounding good to anyone else? :0)  So looking forward to it!

If I had a bigger garden space ready to go, I would have several other things growing
as well, but for now that is what we have growing, and I am happy with that.

Gardening... Whew, it is a lot of work... but as of now, I still think it is worth it.
I have found it is much easier to stay on top of it daily, or every couple days...
then to let it go and then try to get rid of the annoying weeds.

I am certainly not a big fan of the gardening tools... I use them, but a fan - absolutely not.
I can think of a lot of things that I would rather be doing than hoeing weeds in the garden. :0)

So a reminder to myself...
Having fresh homemade salsa... fresh garden tomato's... chocolate chip zucchini bread...
fried green tomato's... grilled zucchini... yeah, it is worth it.  I will keep telling myself - it is
worth it. Ha.. :0)

So do you have a garden planted?  If so, what is your favorite thing to grow?

Old Canning Pot turned into garden accessories...

I recently updated a small area of the backyard near one of the outbuildings
using items that we had on hand for the most part...

Including my old canning pot..
which I used as a flower pot by simply drilling some drainage holes
into the bottom of it, adding dirt, and flowers.

Well, since then I added to to this area using the lid from the same old
canning pot.

I simply drilled a few holes, then we added some wire, and hung it onto a
shepherds hook.
Filled it with water and placed a rock in the center to weigh it down...
and waaahlaaa... a hanging bird bath.

I also considered simply placing it onto a tomato cage because I thought that would work...
but ended up trying the hanging version instead. :0)

Around the outbuilding... an update

Last year I added some decor to the side of our outbuilding...
it is in my sight line from my kitchen window and was rather plain!

Previously, this spot had a set of steps, flower pots, rocks, etc...
I decided to change it up this summer...

Here is the before...
It took only a few minutes of time/effort, used what I had around,
and was okay for filling up the blank space...

However, I wasn't thrilled with it.
So it recently got a change!
We removed just about everything from this area of the yard.

Added in some decorative landscaping rocks, dirt, a neat old well pump,
my old canning pot, and some flowers...

I love this old well pump..
It actually came from the first place that my husband and I bought together...

I am still debating what else to do on this area, and whether to remove
the items on the building altogether or  replace them with something else...
So it is still a work in progress.   But I love how it is looking so far.

Sharing some Photo's... Garden themed

The flowers are starting to show off their lovely selves around here,
so I thought I would share some photo's from around the yard.

The lovely Iris...
I have several of these flowers in different colors...  they are one of my many
favorites.
Here I placed them among my enormous sandstone rock that the Mister and I put
in the yard... with the help of a tractor of course... :0)   A fun old spoke wheel,
and some other much smaller sandstone rocks,  and decorations complete this
area near the driveway.

One of my Rose's starting to bloom...

A fun colorful mix of beautiful flowers...
(thankfully these survived the late frost that we had)

Pink Peonies...

My great big old dried up tree trunk, that I love... and have had for a long time,
 and more beautiful iris flowers...

Next up is my garden space...
I decided to add some raised planting beds this year, and with the help of
the Mister we got them done last night using landscape rocks.

I plan to put some herbs in one, and probably some hot peppers in the other for
our homemade salsa.

Hope you enjoyed the sneak peek photo tour of the yard today.
Have a great Wednesday.

Friday Favorites... (05/09/14)

This has been quite a week I must say...

My son's 19th birthday was this week and it was really hard not to get
to spend the day with him or see him on his birthday... First time ever.
We went and saw him last weekend to celebrate his birthday instead, because
on the actual day he had school, and also had to work so we
wouldn't have gotten to spend much time with him.   It wasn't easy for this mom...
I wanted to be there anyway! :0)

So that leads me to my top favorite thing for the week...

1).  Celebrating our son's birthday.  He is such a joy, and I am so proud that I have the honor
of being his mom. I made him a dirt cake... gummy worms and all.
(ya never get too old for dirtcake/gummy worms!) :0)

2).  & 3).  The Flowers are starting to show up around here, and the ones I planted a
little too early are doing well. (the ones that survived the frost anyway - ooops)

4).  We have 2 bottle calves that are quite entertaining and keep us extra busy.
One was a twin, and the mother only wanted to take care of the other one...
and the second one's mother passed away.  So we are raising them, and they
are quite something.  They have their own personalities that is for sure.

5).  All the nice weather we have had, and grilling outdoors!  Always a favorite.

I could add several more favorites...
The school year is just about over for us here, only a few days left and summer begins!
This school year has went by so quickly.

I have been going to the chiropractor fairly regularly lately, which is why I haven't had a lot of
diy projects posted as i have been 'taking it easy'... and I am doing so much better!
Thank you Jesus.
I learned a lesson - not to move furniture by myself!
I don't have to go back to the chiropractor this time for 2-3 weeks now. Yay!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and to all the mothers out there..
Happy Mothers Day.

Grilling time...

We have had some wonderful the weather the past few days...
actually, kind of downright hot weather.

I decided it was time to Grill outdoors!
So Hamburgers, Hot dogs, onions, and corn is what I grilled up.

I don't think that I have actually grilled corn before.. (sad, i know...)
In my defense however, I am usually not the one that cooks on the grill. :o)

Well, when I was trying to decide what exactly I wanted to grill,
I decided to try wrapping some frozen corn in foil with some butter and see how it went.

The result... I will be grilling corn again.. :0)

So I am curious...What are your favorite things to grill?
Post a comment and let me know, I would love some more idea's.
