Here is a reminder of how they looked last year..
I decided to plant them up differently this year and I chose to go with all of them planted
the same.
This year I chose to try out this beauty..
It is a superbells (calibrachoa) by Proven Winners: Blue Moon Punch
Isn't it a stunner!?!
From what I read they don't mind if they get just a little bit dry between waterings and
to be honest I am a big fan of PW flowers/shrubs that I have purchased so far and while
they were pricier in my area than say a 6 pack of petunia's at our local box stores,
I decided it was worth the extra cost to try it out and see how they perform
compared to last year and another bonus.. deadheading isn't necessary for this plant,
uh yes please!
I only put one plant in each basket.
Which is a switch for sure, last year I think I used 4.
I stored my baskets over winter and I was happy to see the liners
are still in pretty good shape. So I cleaned out the old soil, and this year I
decided to put a piece of plastic in the bottom half of each basket (with
a hole in the bottom for drainage) to try to hold in a little more moisture, and I
also added in some vermiculite for the same reason.
I also added starter fertilizer which I do for pretty much every plant,
as well as some slow release fertilizer to give the plants
the best start possible.
I actually planted them up by the house this year instead of hauling everything down to the
fence to plant them. I simply loaded them up in my cart as I went and when I
was ready I took them to the fence to display them proudly. 😉
I am so excited to see how they do this year!
I also chose to use PW Superbells up near the house in the same baskets
and they are doing so well. (These beauties are called Cherry Star)
I added in some creeping Jenny with these as well to see how they do together,
I am loving the combination of colors and looking forward to seeing how they look
in a few weeks.
I am tempted to add creeping Jenny to the other planters as well but I haven't decided
yet. (decisions, decisions)
I would like to get bigger hanging baskets for this fence line eventually, or possibly double
them up if I decide to go that route.
However, I had other items on my garden/project wish list that I wanted to get to this year
and since these baskets are still doing great, I decided to
put that one farther down on my the list and I will just keep a look out for new ones or
for a good sale for now. :0)
Anyone else have a Garden to do list a mile long, I have so many idea's for projects
but there's that pesky thing called a budget that can get in the way sometimes. Lol.
